Seasonal Capsule wardrobe Essentials

All Year Round Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

So you have created your capsule wardrobe and now the seasons are about to change and you are looking for seasonal capsule wardrobe essentials? . How do you transition from one season to another? You have come to the right place. I have been a stylist for 21 years and have lots of advice  on how certain key capsule wardrobe essentials can help you move from one season to another.

One of the first things you need to decide when embarking on creating a capsule wardrobe is what season the closet is for. If you live in an environment with multiple seasons, you need to determine if your current wardrobe is for spring/summer or autumn/ winter. Once you have decided there will be a transitional period between each primary season, for example during autumn and spring. Finding some capsule wardrobe essentials for these times during the year can be helpful.

Transitioning Seasons In Your Closet

The key to transitioning from one season to another is layering. One of the best ways you can do this is to include a few items in your capsule, which are easy to put on and take off. If you live in an interchangeable environment, you will know that the weather can change quite dramatically in just one day and that these days often occur during spring or autumn. Below I have some ideas for seasonal capsule wardrobe-essentials. Select the best options for your lifestyle and personal preferences.

There are two schools of thought during spring and autumn. You can either keep a few key items perfect for layering out all year round and swap the main part of your wardrobe over, or, gradually replace a winter wardrobe with a summer one as the season gets warmer. In this option you would replace only a few items at a time. Both options work in reverse too.

The Best Scarves For Layering

One of the easiest ways to include seasonal capsule wardrobe essentials is to own a couple of scarves. I would advise you to look at the larger options because they tend to cover both your shoulders and arms during cooler days. Pashminas are perfect for times like this. Choose scarves in 100% cotton or wool because both materials regulate body temperature much better than human-made fabrics do.

Knitwear Essentials

Another way of transitioning the seasons with your wardrobe is to find a couple of crucial knitwear pieces. Knitwear in natural fibres like wool, cotton, or linen work best for layering as they work alongside normal body temperature. Choose cardigans or jumpers in neutral colours that work well with a variety of items in your wardrobe. That way, you can mix and match the layering to work with any outfit.

Capsule Wardrobe Hats

Finally, another way to tackle cooler days is to wear a hat. Your gran was right; you do feel warmer when you wear a hat. Choose natural fabrics again in felt wool, knitted wool, cotton, linen or straw. The best way to decide what type of hat suits you, is to try a few differtent styles on. It is hard to select a hat from an online image because it is often hard to tell the width of a brim or depth of a hat based on a photograph alone. Try a trilby, or beret to add a splash of colour to an outfit. Choose colours that complement many items in your wardrobe, so they act as a critical piece pulling an outfit together and keeping out the chill at the same time. So there you have it, my suggestions on seasonal capsule wardrobe essentials. What do you include?

I joined Michelle's facebook "capsule wardrobe challenge" in June 2020. I loved her approach of starting off with a concept of what colours and styles you were attracted to, followed by what your lifestyle required functionally. It helped me assess my existing wardrobe with a checklist in mind instead of feeling overwhelmed and indecisive. I found the video format and weekly check-ins easy to follow and explained each stage of building a capsule well. She has been quick to answer any queries I have and to offer her professional stylist's opinion with a gentle manner. I am most grateful for Michelle's overarching aim to help her clients "find their happy place". This membership is about being comfortable in your own skin, not about being super fashionable, and that is exactly what I needed. Thank you for helping me find my confidence again. 😊

There is no doubt in my mind that having a personal stylist online is worth the investment. In fact, at the end of the day I will spend considerably less while looking and feeling so much better. Why? Because I will never again mindlessly spend and spend and spend on clothes that just aren’t right for me and that don’t make me happy. I think we all dream of that wardrobe that makes us happy and confident, but it is so easy to just give up and just wear something. I know I did. And that is just plain crazy because I love clothes! I have always been attracted to styles that I lacked the confidence to try out. Now, with the help and guidance of Michelle, I can finally explore those styles with confidence knowing that whenever I run an item by Michelle, she will give me her honest feedback on whether or not it will fit with my colors and with how I want to look and feel. In short: Michelle’s advice really is priceless. I feel an A-lister in the garments I have purchased since becoming a member! Pssst: One secret, you don’t have to become a minimalist if you don’t want to. Michelle is not about legalistic minalism, she is all about you finding out what works for you and that – along with her very deep knowledge of style – is why I think her membership works for me when in the past nothing else has.
