Capsule Wardrobe Trends For Spring 2022
Several trends are showing up this spring. Wide leg trousers have followed through from the winter, as have the oversized styles. In colour, lilac and white are huge, alongside the opposing camps in neutrals neon.
If you want to build a timeless capsule wardrobe, I would avoid the neon trends. There are a lot of oversized neon suits around at the moment, and whilst they look vibrant and wonderful on, they will date very quickly, likely within a year.
Trends to consider this spring that will enhance a capsule wardrobe and help create timeless outfits include;
- Neutrals
- White
- Possibly lilac if it fits within your current palette (lilac suits those of a cooler skin tone).
- Wide leg trousers
- White cotton dresses
- White jeans
- Neutral tailoring
- Monochromatic trends
- Floral dresses that come in under the bust (this style is best for most body shapes).
The Neutral Capsule wardrobe
Neutrals work well in a capsule but are not exclusive. Many people who build a capsule wardrobe build one solely consisting of neutral colours. Essentially you can create a timeless collection of clothes in any shades as long as you limit the colours, make sure they mix and match easily and ensure they suit you.
This season’s return of the neutrals means it is the perfect opportunity to start building your capsule wardrobe if you want to make these shades a large part of what you include. Neutrals work well as the canvas colours in your capsule or as a whole because they mix with other colours seamlessly. Click on any of the images to see where to buy.
Sustainable Choices
Making sustainable fashion choices is essential. For many years I have made eco choices in my home, in what I eat, how I dispose of items and what I buy. However, more recently, I have decided to do the same with what I wear. Some of you may be on a strict budget, so the organic and new sustainable options may be a little out of your reach. If that is the case, consider apps like Vinted and Depop for preloved clothes, which are likely better quality and cheaper than buying new ones.
Alternatively, if you want to buy new, consider sustainable. Choices can relate to how the garment was made, the running of the factory, how it was transported, or the materials used to make it.
Monochromatic Outfit Blends
The monochromatic trends follow on from winter. The idea is to wear an outfit of the same colour that you do not try to match but rather blend. For example, let us say you’ve chosen a classic neutral – beige. You might decide to team a beige suit with a satin beige blouse or shirt. The key is not to look like you are trying to match shades of the same colour but rather to blend them. An excellent way to achieve this is to choose different fabrics and textures because the light will hit them differently, creating the blend.
The monochromatic trends this summer tend to be in pastel or neutral colours.
White Spring Trends For 2022
White is also huge this summer and perfect for a capsule wardrobe. The two main areas seeing a trend are white cotton dresses and straight leg white jeans.
Straight leg trousers tend to suit more body shapes than skinny, so this is a welcome trend.
Low waisted suits very few people, and high waisted is excellent to make your legs look longer but can, in some instances, make your torso look short. If you are unsure whether to go for high, low or medium waisted, go for medium waisted to be safe.
A white cotton dress teamed with simple black, or cognac accessories can be the perfect addition to a capsule wardrobe. If white does not work for you, look at ivory or cream options for a similar look. Neutral accessories tend to work best.
