Decide On The Shoes You Love For A Capsule wardrobe
Many of my private clients have too many shoes. I was asked recently in Capsule Closet Success how do you even start thinking about capsule wardrobe shoes when you have too many?
The answer is the same as building any capsule wardrobe, you start by removing what is no longer working for you. Gather all of your shoes into one place and ask yourself the following regarding every pair;
- Are they comfortable to wear? It might sound obvious, but if one pair of shoes are uncomfortable they are going to be passed every time for the pair that are comfortable.
- When was the last time you wore them?
- If you have chosen a colour palette for your capsule do these shoes fit with it?
- Do they serve your lifestyle?
- Where or when do you wear them?
- Do they go with a lot of your outfits?

Consider Colours That Mix With Your Wardrobe
Do you know which colours work for you? A colour analysis can really help you pin down a colour palette to stick to when starting a capsule wardrobe. Choose around eight colours initially and stick to them.
At a later date once you have got your wardrobe going, you can add more.
Think about how your shoes will finish off your outfits and mix and match with other accessories.
A pair of shoes that matches with a belt, bag or hat can make or break an outfit. It makes the outfit more cohesive.
Based on this, keep the colours to a minimum and try to link them with other accessories.
For example, I have shoes, a bag, and a belt in both black and tan. If I wear an outfit that works with the tan I wear all the tan accessories and the same goes for the black.

Choose Practical Shoes For Your Capsule Wardrobe
It is great to have some of these really high fancy shoes but how often are you likely to wear them?
Fill your capsule wardrobe with practical shoes you love. They do not have to be boring.
The best way to do this is to divide your life over a month from 100%. Let’s say you spend 60% of your time at work, 20% with the children, 10% with your friends, 5% doing sport and 5% out with friends. What shoes do you need to cover those parts of your life?
Always create a wardrobe that works for you rather than buying something you like in the moment and then trying to fit it with what you already have. Your wardrobe should work for you not the other way around.

Intentional Shopping For Shoes
Once you start your capsule and remove all the shoes that are not working for you, do not fill your wardrobe up again with impulse buys!
Take your colours with you whenever you go to buy anything.
Think about your practical needs and how those shoes will serve them.
Your practical needs can be something more quirky, but the point is you have to find something that works for an occasion or part of your life.
