Before You Consider Your Fall Capsule

So you are looking to build a capsule wardrobe for fall 2021? You have come to the right place. However, before you delve any deeper, make sure you are mindful about what you buy. Whether you want to create a capsule wardrobe from scratch or update an existing one, stop before you consider any purchase and ask yourself if the item fits with your current capsule. No bargain is a bargain if you never wear it!

Fall Fashion Colours For 2021

This fall, most of the trending colours are saturated and bright in tone. Think fiery reds, fuchsia, burnt oranges, golden yellows and electric blues. These paint shades work alongside canvas colours such as olive, midnight black, grey and sand. Paint colours tend to be brighter, richer hues, whereas canvas colours are the neutral background shades that work alongside them.

The paint colours of fall 2021 are highly saturated in most cases and mainly composed of warm tones. If any of these shades fit with your current wardrobe, for a vibrant look, you could consider the following combinations;

Downtown Brown & Daylily

Ibiza Blue & Daylily

Winery & Daylily

First Blush & Winery

Clear Sky & Winery

Red Alert & Downtown Brown

Green Bee & Winery

Tomato Cream & Clear Sky

Illuminating & Winery

Alongside the paint colours for your capsule wardrobe for fall 2021, canvas colours can make up most of your outfit if you prefer fewer colours. If you prefer more neutral tones, consider these combinations;

Perfectly Pale & Ultimate Gray

After Midnight & Ultimate Gray

After Midnight and Perfectly Pale

Olive Branch & Perfectly Pale

If you prefer neutral shades with a splash of colour, you could combine the paint and canvas colours and use the paint colours either in accessories or a coat/jacket to brighten up an outfit. Try these combinations;

Wearable Fall Fashion For 2021

Fashions for a capsule wardrobe for fall 2021 consist of a variety of styles and fabrics. Trends include;

Sheer fabrics predominantly in black

Body-hugging jumpsuits in crazy patterns

Bejewelled, sequin and crystal dresses and accessories

Dark Indigo denim

Puffa Jackets

Mini skirts

Chunky knits

Long sleeves that come over the hands

Ski Jumpsuits

Before you head out and buy the first trend you see, think about what you already own and how you can make it work best. For example, sheer fabrics are often uncomfortable unless you can afford to purchase silk or chiffon. Body-hugging jumpsuits in crazy patterns will likely date very quickly. And unless you go skiing, are you going to wear the ski jumpsuit again? Crystal /sequin dresses are fabulous if you have a lot of evening parties to go to; otherwise, they could spend most of their time sitting in your wardrobe. As for very long sleeves, they are great when it is freezing but could look sloppy if they cover your hands.

However, if you need them and they slide in perfectly to your existing wardrobe, chunky knits, mini skirts, puffa jackets, and indigo denim could work for most people. See below for some suggested combinations for your capsule wardrobe for fall 2021.

Shop Your Fall Capsule Mindfully

Like I have said above, one of the most important things you need to remember is to buy intentionally. Do not get caught up in unnecessary trends for a capsule wardrobe for fall 2021, and fill your closet with items you will never wear, or worse, that will date almost instantly. Be intentional every time you shop if the options above are similar to what you already have, then great! Stick with that and maybe use combinations of colour or style that you have not tried before to create a new outfit. I joined Michelle's facebook "capsule wardrobe challenge" in June 2020. I loved her approach of starting off with a concept of what colours and styles you were attracted to, followed by what your lifestyle required functionally. It helped me assess my existing wardrobe with a checklist in mind instead of feeling overwhelmed and indecisive. I found the video format and weekly check-ins easy to follow and explained each stage of building a capsule well. She has been quick to answer any queries I have and to offer her professional stylist's opinion with a gentle manner. I am most grateful for Michelle's overarching aim to help her clients "find their happy place". This membership is about being comfortable in your own skin, not about being super fashionable, and that is exactly what I needed. Thank you for helping me find my confidence again. 😊

There is no doubt in my mind that having a personal stylist online is worth the investment. In fact, at the end of the day I will spend considerably less while looking and feeling so much better. Why? Because I will never again mindlessly spend and spend and spend on clothes that just aren’t right for me and that don’t make me happy. I think we all dream of that wardrobe that makes us happy and confident, but it is so easy to just give up and just wear something. I know I did. And that is just plain crazy because I love clothes! I have always been attracted to styles that I lacked the confidence to try out. Now, with the help and guidance of Michelle, I can finally explore those styles with confidence knowing that whenever I run an item by Michelle, she will give me her honest feedback on whether or not it will fit with my colors and with how I want to look and feel. In short: Michelle’s advice really is priceless. I feel an A-lister in the garments I have purchased since becoming a member! Pssst: One secret, you don’t have to become a minimalist if you don’t want to. Michelle is not about legalistic minalism, she is all about you finding out what works for you and that – along with her very deep knowledge of style – is why I think her membership works for me when in the past nothing else has.
