My teenager needs help finding their style. Can a stylist help?
In this post, I will answer your questions and give you all the info you need to know what to look for in a suitable personal stylist for a teenager and what you should expect.
The short answer is yes, a personal stylist for a teenager is worth it, but the stylist needs to adapt their services to a teenager’s needs.
How A Personal Stylist Can Help A Teenager
A personal stylist for a teenager can help them navigate one of the most tricky life transitions. I have a teenager myself, and seeing her go through it reminded me of that time myself. Friendship groups are so important, and feeling like you are part of the gang in how you look is equally important. Coupled with body changes and outside reactions from other people, it can be very confusing.
When I help adult clients, I identify their body type and colouring and which colours and styles suit them and their body type. Whilst this works for adults, with teenagers, a personal stylist has to adapt to their needs. In my personal styling services, when I work with a teenager, I identify their colouring and the colours that suit them, but I do not label their body type. There is an excellent reason for this. In the first instance, their bodies may still be changing, and secondly, I do not want to potentially trigger body dysmorphia issues.
Instead of identifying a body type alongside the colour analysis, I give the client examples of styles that suit them. With these tools, the teenage client can focus better on finding their style identity knowing in the first instance, that the styles and colours work for them.
Teenagers can be a part of many different styles and subcultures. A personal stylist can give them the tools to find their identity and gain confidence.
In addition, a personal stylist can help teenage clients with a Wardrobe Edit. In this service, we go through their existing wardrobe, removing anything that does not work and offering suggestions of what they might consider adding in a personalised lookbook.
The Results Of Working With A Personal Stylist
After working with a personal stylist, teenagers gain confidence in their style identity. They can choose clothes and styles, confident that they are selecting garments that look great on them. The teenage years are a tricky time to navigate. Nobody wants to stand out for the wrong reasons.
After working with me, previous teenage clients find their style, know instinctively what works for them and have all the information they need to go forward into the rest of their lives. To learn more Book A Free Consultation
Teenage Client Testimonial
“Michelle assisted my 15 year old daughter who asked for help in creating her ‘look’ and capsule wardrobe. Michelle was brilliant, she really knows her stuff and that shines through in all that she does. What I wasn’t expecting was how Michelle really helped boost my daughters confidence regarding her height and body shape and she now knows what clothes and colours compliment her. She can now scan rails of clothes and head to the right item in minutes of entering a shop or looking online. (That alone was worth every penny!) The ongoing support for the membership has been so helpful too when my daughter wanted to check a combination prior to buying. The investment we made for Michelle’s expertise has saved me a fortune in unworn clothes and the increased body confidence for my daughter is priceless. Highly recommend – you won’t regret it.”

What To Look For In A Personal Stylist For A Teenager
To find the perfect personal stylist for a teenager, check that they have worked with teenagers before. A stylist should serve a teenage client in a different way than an adult. As you can see above, there are valid reasons why the approach has to be different.
In addition, look for a stylist with at least ten years of experience in various environments and with a wide selection of clients. For example, a stylist who has only worked with clients in a particular store will have only dealt with a specific demographic. A stylist with ten years of experience and testimonials will have learnt a lot along the way about best-serving clients in a wide range of sizes, backgrounds, ages and social demographics. All of that experience will be beneficial to you and your teenager.
Search for someone with at least ten testimonials. Look at where the the clients who wrote the testimonials reside and if any are from teenage clients or their parents.
