The Column Body Type

The Column Shape

The Column

Your body shape is as the name suggests, your shoulders and hip are in alinement, you have an average bust, slight waist and long legs. You are very likely taller than most.

Your Clothing Mistakes

If you know what to buy, you can carry clothes very well because of your incredible height. The worst thing you can do is to hide your frame under baggy clothes. This would be a disaster for you! The worst thing you could do is to cover up your waist and drown your bust in something baggy! Long baggy tops or dresses are best avoided. You will have likely found it hard to find clothes that fit your long limbs. It is not worth settling for anything.

It is much better to find a brand that caters for your body length. Asos, Marks and Spencer and Mango and some of Zara’s range all cater for the taller woman. For dresses and coats avoid clothing that is loose around your middle and carries straight down with no definition. When buying anything in tops or jackets, avoid anything baggy that carries on below the waist because it will only make you look as if you have no shape.

Avoid crop tops because they will only make you look longer. Anything with a dropped waist will only elongate you and not define your shape.

Your Best Choices

You have lovely long limbs, and you are slim, you only need to concentrate on defining your shape. Flared trousers and bell-bottoms will give you curves and blocks of colour that break up your body will work best for you. Alternatively, dresses that fit and flare with wide belts would help give you shape. You are one of the few body shapes that can get away with long and detailed necklaces. Wear long beads, a necklace or chain. High waisted A-line skirts would work well on you in a different colour to your top. Use blocks of colour in your clothing choices. Bell flared sleeves and bell-bottoms will enhance your body, giving you curves. Choose garments that come in high on the waist. For formal wear, a dress with a trumpet skirt would look fabulous. Shirts and blouses with double cuffs will give you more length.

Jackets

Choose fitted jackets that come in high at the waist If you can find a jacket with flared sleeves even better. A jacket with one or two buttons that close at the waist will give this area definition. Choose a jacket with angular collars rather than curved.

Tops and Tshirts

You can choose bright and exciting block colours in slim cuts that show off your waist. Round neck or V-neck tops will enhance your fabulous shape. Avoid crop tops, as they will not show off your figure and will only make your torso look longer. Make sure they are long enough to cover your long body.

Shirts and Blouses

If you can choose a shirt for work that moves away from the classic styles, it will suit your figure better. Look for blouses with bell sleeves and separate panels down the front. It will break up the length of your torso and give your waist definition.  Flared sleeves will also enhance your shape.

Knitwear

Avoid loose, long and chunky knitwear and select cardigans and jumpers that cling. A round or V-neck is preferable. A slim fitted tank top over a loose, or bell-sleeved blouse would work well too.

Swimwear

Choose swimwear that supports and separates your bust. Avoid swimming costumes that have no support because they will enhance your slight waist. You do not need to make your legs look longer so a lower cut in the leg is suitable for you.

Coats

Three quarter length coats will show off your long legs. Choose one that either comes in at the waist or preferably has a tie belt. A breast placket and side pockets will give you shape.

Dresses

Choose dresses that have defined under the bust. A deep V-neck will point attention towards your waist. A dress that draws in high on the waist and then flares out in a gentle A-line will give you shape. You can afford to wear floaty fabrics and flared sleeves. Avoid anything that has no definition and falls straight to the hem from the shoulder in an A-line fashion.

Skirts

Choose high waisted A-line skirts to add shape to your waist or flared skirts. Avoid anything that clings everywhere.

Trousers

You are one of the few body shapes that can afford to wear cropped trousers. They will show off your long legs. Wear them with wedges, flats or ankle boots. Alternatively, you can wear pretty much any full-length trousers. Lucky you! Trousers with a bell-bottom will give your body shape.

Shoes and Boots

Choose a balanced heel that is not too chunky and not too delicate. If you are conscious of your height, any flat will suit you but choose angular styles over rounded shoes and boots.
